Steve Donaldson

Steve Donaldson is a seasoned attorney and policy advisor with nearly two decades of experience at the intersection of law, politics, and public policy.

From 2017 to 2025, Steve Donaldson served as Senior Advisor and Counsel to Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), where he advised on a wide range of issues including Senate rules, labor and employment law, regulatory reform, artificial intelligence, supply chain policy, and First Amendment protections including donor privacy. His earlier Capitol Hill experience included roles with the House Education and Workforce Committee under Chairman John Kline, as legislative counsel to Rep. Todd Rokita (R-IN), and as a legal intern to Rep. Spencer Bachus (R-AL).

Steve’s depth of experience also extends beyond the halls of Congress. Before joining Senate leadership, Steve was an associate at Holtzman Vogel, where he guided corporate clients, PACs, nonprofits, and political committees through the legal intricacies of electoral advocacy.

Over the years, he has built a reputation as a leading expert in campaign finance and election law, advising two presidential campaigns, serving as outside counsel to national party committees, and providing legal support to dozens of federal and state-level campaigns.

A native of Kentucky, Steve holds both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Alabama and remains a proud Crimson Tide fan.
